Terms of use

Last updated: October 6, 2026

Purpose

These terms of use govern the relationship between Tiltio (SIREN 930 813 514, share capital 300 €, 9 rue Alfred Duprat, 33200 Bordeaux, France), which publishes Chessio, and the coach or organisation that opens its club's space on Chessio (the "club").

Each club administrator accepts them when they first log in, and again with each new version. By accepting them, they declare that they act in a professional capacity and have authority to bind the club. The club's students accept their own terms of use, published in the club's space.

Opening the space and administrator accounts

A club's space is opened by Chessio, following a demo request, on a subdomain of its own (for example myclub.chessio.club). A first administrator is created with it; others can be added later.

The information provided (club name, contact details, legal and bank details) must be accurate and kept up to date.

Each administrator is responsible for keeping their login details confidential and for actions taken with their account. Any unauthorised use must be reported to us without delay at contact@chessio.club.

The service

Chessio gives the club a space in its own name, with its logo and colours: live lessons and replays, video library, library of lessons and exercises, online tournaments, news feed, forum, messaging, calendar, memberships and online payments.

Live lessons take place in a video conference built into the app; videos are kept in the platform's storage. Online tournaments rely on Lichess, with the club's Lichess account; payments rely on Stripe.

Chessio develops the service and may change its features, without removing an essential feature without reasonable notice. Chessio is bound by a best-efforts obligation.

Price and commission

Using Chessio involves no fixed subscription. Chessio takes a commission on the amounts paid by the club's students for their subscriptions, according to the scale published on the Pricing page in force at the time of payment.

Online payment fees charged by Stripe are added to the commission, at actual cost. Amounts are exclusive of tax; VAT is added where applicable.

Each month, Chessio issues the club a commission invoice for the previous calendar month. When a payment is refunded to a student, the commission is reduced pro rata to the amount still collected, by credit note if that month's invoice has already been issued.

Chessio may change its pricing scale by notifying the club at least thirty days before it applies. A club that refuses it may stop using the service within that period.

Collection and payouts

To sell its subscriptions, the club opens a Stripe Connect account from its space and accepts Stripe's Connected Account Agreement. It provides Stripe with the requested information (identity, business, bank details); payments can only be collected once that account is active.

Students' payments are collected through Stripe; the club's share, net of commission, is transferred to its Stripe account at each billing date, then paid out to its bank account according to Stripe's schedule.

The club freely sets its plans, prices and promotion codes. It is the seller of its subscriptions to its students: it defines and displays its terms of sale (duration, cancellation, refunds) and handles its students' requests about them.

The club alone remains responsible for its tax, social security and accounting obligations, in particular for choosing the VAT rate applied to its subscriptions.

The club's commitments

The club alone is responsible for its teaching, for the content it publishes (lessons, videos, documents, games, images, music) and for its relationship with its students. It warrants that it holds the necessary rights to that content and that it is lawful.

The club's administrators have a duty to moderate the space: they ensure that members comply with their terms of use, and they act without delay on content or behaviour that breaches them, in particular as soon as they are made aware of it or the content is manifestly unlawful. They pay particular attention to students who are minors. This moderation does not relieve each member of responsibility for what they post.

It informs its students that live lessons offered as replays are recorded, and uses the service only for its chess-teaching activity, in compliance with the law.

Content and intellectual property

The club remains the owner of its content. It grants Tiltio, for as long as the content is online, the right to host, reproduce and display it in its space, solely to provide the service.

The Chessio platform (software, brand, design, documentation) is the property of Tiltio. The club receives a personal, non-exclusive right to use it for as long as it uses the service.

Suggestions the club sends us may be used freely to improve the service.

Personal data

For its students' data (account, activity, posts, subscriptions), the club is the data controller and Tiltio acts as its processor within the meaning of Article 28 of the GDPR: we process that data only on its instructions and to provide the service, without selling it or using it for advertising.

We ensure its security and confidentiality, help the club respond to its students' requests to exercise their rights, and inform it without delay of any personal data breach concerning them. Our sub-processors are: Microsoft (Azure hosting, European Union), Google (Google Workspace: emails), Stripe (payments) and, when the club or its students link their account, Lichess.

When the club stops using the service, its students' data is returned to it on request, then deleted, unless the law requires it to be kept.

For administrators' data and the club's billing, Tiltio is the data controller: see our privacy policy.

Availability and liability

Chessio uses reasonable means to ensure the availability and security of the service, which may be interrupted for maintenance or in the event of an incident, preferably outside lesson hours.

Chessio is not responsible for content published by the club and its members, nor for interruptions of third-party services (Google, Lichess, Stripe).

Except in the case of gross negligence or wilful misconduct, the liability of Tiltio is limited to direct damage and, for all events combined, to the amount of commissions received from the club during the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Term, suspension and termination

These terms apply for an indefinite period, for as long as the club uses the service. The club may end them at any time by writing to contact@chessio.club; it then takes the necessary steps regarding its students' ongoing subscriptions.

In the event of a serious breach by the club (unlawful content, fraud, non-payment), Chessio may suspend the space after a formal notice that remains unheeded for fifteen days, or immediately where the law or the security of the service so requires.

Commissions due on payments collected before termination remain payable.

Changes to these terms

Chessio may change these terms. The date of the current version is shown at the top of this page.

Each new version is presented to the club's administrators the next time they log in: they accept it to keep managing the space.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law. In the event of a dispute, the parties first seek an amicable solution: write to us at contact@chessio.club.

Failing agreement within thirty days, any dispute falls within the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Bordeaux, France.
